KIHO is happy to inform you that two of our board members together with our three European volunteers have successfully visited embassies and potential donors during four days last week. Overall, we met five embassies and three other international organizations during our time in Tanzania’s big city.

During our four days we have visited the French, German, Spanish and American embassies as well as the EU delegation. In addition, we visited three country representative offices of UN organizations – UNESCO, UNIDO and the UN World Food Programme. As KIHO’s networking efforts mostly focused on the regional bureau of WFP in Arusha or with organizations abroad, it was a very interesting and inspiring experience for the team.

KIHO prepared five abstracts of projects to support local community groups in Same District. All abstracts were requested by the community and we tried to synthesize all information into a short abstract to have a brief overview of the projects. We have asked for the support of tree nurseries, bee-keeping initiatives, rehabilitation of a water irrigation pond, small-scale food processing and roof-top rainwater harvesting. While we could only leave our abstracts with the donor community, we hope that we can soon submit full-fledged proposals to them.

It was a great learning opportunity. KIHO is thankful to the donors we visited for their hospitality and their time. In particular, we are grateful to UNESCO where even the country representative took the time attended the meeting and talk with us. Now, as we are back in our office in Same town, we will write grant proposals and hopefully succeed in getting funds to support our communities!
