"Modern" beehives allows easy harvest

• Why?

Beekeeping is an ancestral activity in Tanzania but only since recently it has been used as a commercial activity. The local community considers honey as a precious commodity that is mostly used as a medicine or healthy food. With the traditional methods, it is difficult to obtain pure honey which reduces the market price. Modern beehives provide a sustainable income generating opportunity for the village community initiative while contributing to a strengthened biodiversity and ecosystem, cross-pollination and a better harvest of crops for the farmers.

• What will you sponsor?

       - You support 10 “modern” beehives allowing an easy harvest, a greater chance of survival of the bee colony after the harvest and a high yield of honey
       - At the moment, there is a lack of knowledge of how to construct and use modern beehives. Thus, you sponsor trainings that are necessary to instruct the local community about the modern practices of beekeeping and how to promote their products at the market
       - You also provide equipment and tools that serve as protective gears during harvesting of honey to secure the life of bees and those people harvesting honey

• What can you expect?

        - You will receive pictures of the construction of the beehives, the training and the first harvest
        - You will receive a scanned “thank you” letter of this rural community initiative including an English translation provided by KIHO
        - You will receive six updates every three months about how the project is going, including pictures
