Water for a school, every drop counts!

Photo
School children looking for water for school
  • Amount: $960 or TSH 1,560,000

  • Why?
There is a lot of rain in the Southern Pare mountains and yet during some times of the year, people do suffer from acute water shortage. This is an apparent contradiction but it’s due to the lack of water supply by the government. Therefore, the school children have to walk long distances searching for water used for drinking, cooking as well as for cleaning the classrooms. This critical situation affects the health of the children because of poor personal hygiene, dehydration and waterborne diseases.

Roof-top rainwater harvesting is a simple and low-cost technique that offers many benefits: children don’t have to spend hours to fetch water, improved standard of living and the promotion of health and sanitation practices.

  • What will you sponsor?
        - With your donation, plastic gutters along one school building as well as a locally-built furrow-cement tank is sponsored
        - This will allow for the harvesting of 5,000 liters of water throughout the year, increasing the hygienic standard and availability of water in one school

  • What can you expect?
        - You will receive pictures of the construction and the inauguration celebration of the roof-top rainwater-harvesting system at this school or village dispensary
        - You will receive a scanned “thank you” letter of this school as well as “success stories” written by pupils talking about the project - including an English translation provided by KIHO
        - You will receive three updates every six months about how the project is going, including pictures
