We are very excited to announce that two of our three “EU Aid Volunteers” have arrived in Same on Monday. Pauline from France is the expert volunteer and Johannes from Austria is a young professional volunteer with a pilot program of the European Union’s European Commission in the field of humanitarian affairs. On Friday we have picked them up from Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA) and we had our first meeting on Monday together. They will support our activities, help us to find new partners and raise more funds for our projects.

The two volunteers that are financed by the EU will stay for overall six months. In mid-January, also a Spanish volunteer will join with this program and stay for four months. KIHO plans to visit all villages in which we are active in so that the volunteers get an understanding what the vision and mission of KIHO means in practice. Already on Thursday we will visit together Tae village so that they can be exposed to the life in a rural setup in the Pare mountains. Also, they can witness a food distribution in Mahende village as the local community is rewarded by the UN World Food Programme for rehabilitating parts of the road in Tae. Next week, some of our board members will accompany them to a beekeeping seminar at Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) in Morogoro.

Overall, we have the expectation that our volunteers will help us to get connected to the donor community, write grant proposals and help us to improve our website, keep our social media updated and provide computer trainings. Six months is of course not a very long time but we hope that from both sides it will be enjoyable and successful.
